Flags of American Revolution Quilt

Send me your photos if you haven't shared your blocks. It doesn't matter what month we did them in.
Add the link to your blog post below once you have blogged about your blocks

Very nice Terry!
I couldn't find any buttons for the stars. So I may do what Cathy did and applique wool stars. Any ideas on where to find buttons though?
These quilt blocks are really wonderful! I'm really going to enjoy seeing this quilt come together.

Next month we are doing Block 15, Whiskey Rebellion and 3 pieced sawtooth stars. The applique is a doozy so I'll keep this month fairly simple.

This Week in My Sewing Room

I've had a little time in my sewing room, but mostly in the prep stage so it gets a little boring to blog about.
I picked up this cute wool applique while in Seattle . I've got one more to whip stitch down then I can add the trees, faces, ect. It is actually a lot larger then it looks so it isn't super portable.

I'm going to Guatemala in two weeks and need some hand work. This is a heads up for you Revolutionary Flag quilt makers- this one is up for next month.

Time to go through my drawers of small scraps and re-organize. Many of these are too small for me. Anybody want a small bag of small pieces? Scraps are GONE! Thanks! I'm cutting more 1 1/2" squares for our quiltalong. I want to have it done and ready to hand quilt to take with me on my trip. I'm calling it Cascadia (for now, subject to change)

I will be checking a bag of items to donate- 15 pounds to go and I'll be full and at 50 pounds!

Many of you have asked about my mom, thank you so much! She still isn't doing well. She is on a strong antibiotic for an infection and either it isn't working or it is making her exhausted. She hasn't been herself, weak and tired. I hope to see her turn a corner soon.

Happy Wednesday to you all.

A Little Quilting

Here's a small fall quilt that I hand quilted recently. I got the binding sewn on yesterday.
Here's the fun backing, although I'm not sure what it is! hahaha

Ta-da! Binding all sewn down. Simple, fun, rewarding.

Here is the back to another table topper that I've made recently. It's killing me, but I cannot show it yet. I'm working on the binding on this one too.

Be sure to send me photos of your flag blocks if you do not have a blog. We will post Friday morning.

If you haven't yet, sign up for the book giveaway HERE. I'll draw a name the beginning of November.

Happy Monday!

A Quilt for Christmas- Giveaway!

I had big big plans for Thursday- quilt plans, lunch with a friend, then my mom ended up in the Emergency Room so I did too.(She is back home now and hopefully will stay there!)  I don't have anything to show so I'll share this! (keep scrolling as you have a big opportunity to win a sewing machine!)

Sandra Dallas' latest book, A Quilt for Christmas, has created a wonderful story about a Civil War-era quilting group, whose members are actually the grandmothers of the Persian Pickle Club ladies. Civil War Era quilting story? Right up my alley! I have to confess I haven't read any Persian Pickle Club books but think I'll enjoy this.
It is 1864, and Eliza Spooner’s husband Will has joined the Kansas volunteers to fight the Confederates, leaving her with their two children and in charge of their home and land.  Eliza is confident that Will will return home, and she helps pass the months making a special quilt to keep her husband warm during his winter months in the army.  When the unthinkable happens, she takes in a woman and child who have been left alone and made vulnerable by the war, and she finds solace and camaraderie amongst the women of her quilting group. But when she is asked to help hide an escaped slave, she must decide for herself what is right and who she can count on to help her.

You have two ways to win! Leave a comment here and I will send you the book after I've read it, of course, in time for the holidays.

Chevrons in Autumn

I finished my little chevron top using the wonderful clear bold True Blues from P & B Textiles. (you can see the complete line close up by following the link)

Upside down shot for good measure. :)

White was clearly the color of choice to use with these wonderful clear deep blues. I don't have much white in my stash, so ended up using a little surprise white. Isn't that cute?

And if you'd like to know how it is strip pieced here is my EQ diagram. The rows are sewn together on the diagonal. Genius piecing!

I had to add a couple of photos from our trip to the coast. After my sprinkly race this is how the day ended!
Took this gorgeous photo on our drive home.

Happy Wednesday!

An Autumn Monday

Autumn has finally arrived. What wonderful weather we've been having.

I saw this little quilt on another blog and followed the link back to The Olde World Quilt Shoppe. I took liberties with making mine, cause I wanted a little hand project for a weekend away. I got a little bit of quilting done on it, but also picked up a raging fall cold so didn't really feel like quilting much. (I did run a race though, check it out HERE)
This is on my design wall, working with True Blue from p & B textiles. I've never made a chevron quilt and thought it was about time!

Happy Monday! Even if my head is in a bucket .

Aurora Quilt Show 2014

I wanted to share a few more quilts from Aurora.

Ruth and I had a nice chat about this primitive little quilt. Initials are embroidered at the upper left.

The person who entered this quilt wrote that it was made as a dolly quilt for her when she was little.
Here is what was underneath the little black fan quilt.

As common as a db wedding ring is, I still enjoy seeing them. Love the bits of red.

This chair was found at a barn sale and so was the quilt, same sale, but separately! The purchaser used them so creatively!

And remember, if you run out of space just remove a few vowels! lol

Enjoy your weekend!

The Humble Antique Quilts

I got to attend the Aurora Historical Society Quilt Show this weekend. I also met up with Ruth from Country Log Cabin blog, now that she is an Oregonian. I have met her on two different occasions so was fun to make it a third meeting at one of my favorite little quilt shows.
It seems they had a lot of entries this year so not as many antique quilts in the Aurora Colony collection were displayed and those that were, were hung very crowdedly. (is that even a word?)
This one wasn't crowded. I love that not all of the blocks have big contrasts.

I really adored the pink print with these 9 patch blocks.
This crazy quilt was made from some great and wild men's ties.

See what I mean about crowded?
This quilt wasn't in excellent shape but look at those vibrant colors!

Happy quilting on a wonderful Wednesday!

Beautiful Batiks

Here is my completed top sing 100% cotton batiks. It was a challenge and I have to say I am happy with the top. Because of the braid pattern I did have issues with wavy bias, which is why I used my seam ripper.
When adding the blue strips, I found it very helpful to line up my centers and sew from the middle out and lightened my hand on the iron.

Here's a close up of these gorgeous fabrics! Keio and her mom have started an Etsy store and I encourage you to take a look HERE.
Thank you Keio for believing I could work with your beautiful batiks and showcase them in a quilt.

People Quilts

I found these "people" quilt particular fascinating at the NW Quilt Expo.

It seems I am seeing more and more of these types of quilts at shows. I am amazed by them!

And these ones are just completely FUN!
I'm spending time with my daughter while the weather is nice. Have a great weekend!
